4/7/08 – Boys’ notebook: Garnet Valley aims to compete in the Central League

Chris Goldberg
Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 4/7/08

Just how good is Garnet Valley? Are the Jaguars ready to compete for a Central League championship? We will find out soon enough.

Even though Garnet Valley is not officially a member of the Central League until next year, the Jags are playing all 10 members of the league this season.

That’s good for boys’ lacrosse fans who want to know if the perennial Del-Val League champion is ready to take its spot among the Central League elite.

So far this year, Garnet Valley, ranked fourth by Phillylacrosse.com, has dominated its Del-Val foes, Sun Valley, 14-2, Kennett, 11-1, and Interboro, 20-1. The Jaguars also have thumped Avon Grove, 15-3, and the Central League’s Haverford, 12-5.

4/7/09 – Youth Team of Week: Lower Bucks Lacrosse sells Wings tickets for fallen officer’s Memorial Fund

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 4/7/09

The Lower Bucks Lacrosse League’s fifth- and sixth-grade youth boys’ team is finding a way to bring something positive to a most tragic event.

This Saturday the team will join to honor fallen Middletown Township police officer Chris Jones at the Philadelphia Wings’ game at the Wachovia Center. The squad – the season’s first 141Lacrosse Youth Team of the Week– is selling tickets to the National Lacrosse League contest to raise money for the Officer (Det.) Chris Jones Middletown Township Memorial Fund.

Officer Jones, a 10-year veteran of the Middletown force, was struck and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Route 1, near the I-95 interchange on Jan. 29. The fund will provide for the future education of Officer Jones’ three children.

The Lower Bucks coach is Paul Deppi, a 10-year veteran of the police force of nearby Newtown Township. Deppi, who helped found Lower Bucks Lacrosse 16 years ago and has continued to coach, felt the team’s fundraiser was the ideal way to teach his players about giving to the community by honoring a true leader.

4/7/10 – Scholastic boys’ roundup: Avon Grove spoils return of charter member now coaching team from California

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 4/7/10

Tim Golder collected four goals and two assists and Eric Waibel added three goals and an assist as host Avon Grove spoiled the homecoming of a charter member of the program with a 13-4 victory over Servite High (CA) today in a boys’ lacrosse.

Servite is coached by Kevin Wallace, a 2004 Avon Grove graduate who was a starter on the first Devils team in 2001. The Friars (3-9) also played Bishop Shanahan (9-1 loss) on Tuesday and play at Archbishop Wood Friday.

Wallace – who played at suburban Philly Ursinus College (PA) – started all four years under Eric Jackson, who started the Avon Grove program and remains the school’s only coach. Jackson’s squad rebounded from a 12-11 loss to Spring-Ford on Monday and improved to 3-1, but the focus was on connecting with an old lacrosse friend who started a program of his own three years ago in Anaheim.

“It was a neat experience to have a former player come back,” said Jackson. “He was a great kid, and we have become good friends. We played with class and they played with class.”

From Press Release

T.J. Holston scored an outstanding double-OT winner as the visiting Albright College men’s lacrosse team kicked off its conference schedule by defeating two-time defending champion Widener, 11-10 on Saturday at the HEADstrong Rivalry Games.

4/7/17 – Long’s late heroics give @sprlax a 6-5 Central League win over @gvjagslax

By Matt Chandik
Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 4/7/17

As he tends to be, Tom Lemieux was animated in the Springfield-Delco huddle with 38.6 seconds left in Tuesday night’s Central League game at Garnet Valley.

Kyle Long

Granted, part of that was because the Cougars were assessed a timeout that Lemieux swore he didn’t call right before pole Nick Matty scored what would have been a go-ahead goal, but Lemieux didn’t change in the ensuing huddle when Kyle Long’s attempted sailed high and Springfield called timeout.

Long, though, never batted an eye.

“I’m freaking out in the huddle and he just looks at me and goes, ‘relax, Coach, we got this,” Lemieux said with a wide smile.
