Thursday’s boys’ high school roundup, Late Edition: DTE downs Great Valley

Visiting Downingtown East outscored Great Valley, 8-4, in the second half and claimed a 10-7 Ches-Mont League win today.

The Cougars (5-1, 2-0), who trailed, 3-2, at the half, got three goals and an assist from Brandyn O’Connell and two goals and an assist from Tyler Kroft. Aaron Murphy and Kyle Lauletta each added two goals and Eric Sell was strong in the goal with 12 saves.

“We picked up the intensity in the second half,” said Cougars rookie coach odd Cliggett. “Our goalie had some big saves and our d-middie (Steve Adams) cleared the ball well. Kevin Clarke was strong on the face-off and the whole team played well.”

Eric Gartner had three goals and an assist for the Patriots (3-2, 1-2).

Avon Grove 13, West Chester East 2

Trevor Hornby had three goals and four assists and Eric Waibel added three goals for the undefeated Devils.

Sun Valley 6, Bayard Rustin 5

Kyle Gillam had two goals and an assist and Brandon Krause made 11 saves in his first varsity start to lead the Vanguards to the win.

Garnet Valley 8, Radnor 2

Jules Raucci scored four goals while Robert Raucci and Adam Rudman each had two to pace the undefeated Jaguars to the victory.

Jeff Puckette and Mike Cherry scored for Radnor and Brendan Manderack made nine saves.

Springfield-Delco 5, Strath Haven 2

Joe Venit scored four goals and Dan O’Connell made 11 saves to lift the Cougars to the Central League win.

Steve Brodeur was a standout with made 19 saves for the Panthers.

Wissahickon 7, Upper Moreland 6, 2 OT

The Trojans rallied from a 5-2 halftime lead and won it on a goal by freshman Brooks Melvin (two goals).

Tyler Crothers also had two goals for the Trojans and Josh Stollman had a goal and an assist.


Ridley 16, Upper Darby 0

Ryan O’Kane had two goals and two assists while Dalton George and Mike Crowley each scored two goals to lead the Green Raiders to the shutout win in the Central League.


CB West 9, North Penn 1

Jack Firriolo had two goals and an assist and Jake Ross made 10 saves to lead CB West to the Suburban One Continental victory.
