Staff Report

Senior Iris Williamson scored five goals and became the all-time leading scorer for host Germantown Friends School today by reaching the 200-goal plateau as the host Tigers improved to 10-0 by defeating Hun School (N.J.), 17-11.
Williamson set the mark early in the game with her second tally and also finished with two assists. The old record of 196 goals was held by 2010 grad Betsy Sachs, who now plays at Bowdoin.
Williamson, who has committed to Penn, has 30 goals this year. She was unaware she had established the record until the game was stopped to make time for a special ceremony.

Harriton goalie Melina Avery didn’t have much to do in the first half of Tuesday’s Central League game with visiting Radnor.
The Rams junior had six shots thrown her way and got in front of three of them.
Things were a little more hectic in the second half, and Avery was there when her team needed her the most. Avery made seven saves in the final 25 minutes, two on 8-meter shots in the last four minutes as Harriton (10-1, 6-1) retained a share of first place with a 10-9 decision.
The Rams – ranked No. 2 by Phillylacrosse.com and No. 14 nationally by TopLaxRecruits.com – made the most of their 17 first-half shots, putting seven in the Radnor cage, including four in a seven-minute run by Jane Henderson. Sabrina Tabasso got two of her three scores in the opening half as Harriton earned a 7-3 advantage.
“They face-guarded Caleigh (Foust),” Harriton coach George Dick said of the Red Raiders’ defensive strategy in the first half. “We expected that and had worked on other plays, and Jane was the one who kept scoring.”

Hailey Andress and Melina Avery have had a lot to talk about since the Agnes Irwin lacrosse team began preparing for the 2016 season.
Katie Samson presents a check for $10,000 to Magee Rehab Center. The Katie Samson Foundation Festival is in its 16th year and featured 27 games, the largest single-day high school event of the year.
Avery, who was in goal for Harriton High’s 2013 PIAA champions, has missed time during her playing career because of concussions. She took time off from her studies at Syracuse University this year and joined the AI coaching staff to work with the Owls’ goalies.
Andress, Agnes Irwin’s junior goalie, was hit by a shot during a practice session and suffered a concussion.
