4/15/08 – Scholastic girls: Marple Newtown girls showing improvement

Marple Newtown was looking for improvement this year after struggling through a difficult 2-13 campaign in 2007.
What a difference a year makes.
Monday at Cardinal O’Hara, junior midfielders Melanie Sarcinello and Jackie Roebuck each pumped in seven goals as the Tigers upped their record to 5-1 with a 20-10 non-league victory over the Lions.
“We wanted to improve from last season” said Sarcinello.
Added Roebuck, “We feel like we are off to a great start this season, the best one in years.”
4/15/09 – College wrap: Temple women rally past Villanova; Fisher wins first at Lafayette in 4OT win over La Salle

Junior Alison Incarnato scored the game-winning goal with just over five minutes remaining and Chelsea Rosiek (Wissahickon) scored four goals and assisted on five others, including the game-winner, to give Temple a 12-11 victory over host Villanova Tuesday night.
Down by three goals with a little over 21 minutes to play, Rosiek scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 11 at 9:06. Rosiek fed Incarnato the game-winner for her team-leading 14th assist of the season with 5:38 left to play.
The win was the second straight for Temple (2-11). Villanova (6-7) had a five-game win streak snapped.

Just a few years ago, pop singer Natasha Bedingfield sang of an unscripted future in her hit song, “Unwritten.”
“Today is where your book begins,” she belted over airwaves. “The rest is still unwritten.”
Today, Unionville senior Amy Donovan may well be singing the same tune about herself, her season, and her upcoming tenure at Princeton University next fall.
Described as “the anchor of the defense,” Donovan is an avid reader and fan of history who is keeping the page wide open when it comes to her own future – starting with her immediate one.
4/15/10 – Weekly women’s college honors: Temple’s Parcell, WCU’s Haines, Lock Haven’s Berger, Denver’s Harman

Temple freshman midfielder Stephany Parcell (Interboro) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 11, 2010. The award is the second of Parcell’s career.
Parcell came off the bench to score four goals in Temple’s 18-17 win against Duquesne on April 11, including the game-winner with one minute left in the first half. She added three more goals in the second half including the final goal for the Owls. The midfielder also scored twice in Temple’s 12-8 win at St. Bonaventure on Friday and recorded a draw control and caused turnover in that victory. Her scoring performances rank her fourth on the team with 14 goals this season.

4/15/12 – Checking for Cancer: Girls’ games help tourney growth; Merion Mercy, Germantown Friends remain undebeaten

Bonnie McShane collected four goals and five assists and Julianne D’Orazio had four goals, two assists and three draw controls to lead undefeated Merion Mercy to a 16-9 victory Saturday over Downingtown East in one of two girls’ lacrosse games play at the 4th annual Nike Checking for Cancer invitational at Haverford School.
The Bears, who jumped to a 10-5 lead at halftime, improved to 7-0 while the Cougars fell to 3-4.
This is the second year that girls’ games were held in the tourney, which promotes early detection for three men’s cancers: Prostate, Colorectal and Testicular.
Olivia Nostrant added three goals, one assist and two draw controls for Merion Mercy. Nostrant is the daughter of Haverford School coach John Nostrant, a prostate cancer survivor who created the event along with Georgetown Prep coach Kevin Giblin (colon cancer survivor).
4/15/14 – Girls’ lacrosse: Strath Haven wins in GA, Garnet Valley falls in MD, Springfield-Delco tops Carroll

The Strath Haven girls’ lacrosse team opened its Georgia spring break trip by defeating host Walton High, 16-13, Monday in Marietta.
Strath Haven opened its Georgia trip with a win at walton
Suzanna Penikis led the Panthers with four goals and two assists and Kathryn Restrepo added three goals and three assists. Kristen Hansen and Bri Irons each scored three goals.
Walton, which got four goals and an assist from Erin McBride and three goals from Riley Ewing, is 10-4. The Panthers (7-2) play at defending state champion and nationally-ranked Milton on Wednesday.

Emily Santana collected four goals and three assists and Caitlyn Gormley (two goals) had the game-winner to lead the No. 3 Cougars (7-1) past the No. 4 Patriots.

The La Salle women’s lacrosse team won its second straight game, defeating St. Bonaventure with ease on Sunday afternoon, 14-2.
The Explorers were in control for the entire game and looked comfortable in all aspects of play. They scored the first give goals of the game and allowed just one in each half.
Bridget Ruskey (Middle Township-NJ), who scored the game-winner in overtime just two days prior, scored a team-high four goals. Rachel Ceplo (Delran-NJ) had three and Hannah Wertz (Manheim Twp.) two. Ceplo’s third goal gave La Salle a 10-goal lead in the second half to activate a running clock that would continue for the rest of regulation.
Emily Johnston (Ridley) had a strong game with a goal, an assist, and team-highs in caused turnovers (three) and draw controls (seven).
