Sunday’s D1 women’s roundup: @LaSalleLacrosse, @SJUHawks_WLAX triumph

The La Salle women’s lacrosse team won its second straight game, defeating St. Bonaventure with ease on Sunday afternoon, 14-2.

The Explorers were in control for the entire game and looked comfortable in all aspects of play. They scored the first give goals of the game and allowed just one in each half.

Bridget Ruskey (Middle Township-NJ), who scored the game-winner in overtime just two days prior, scored a team-high four goals. Rachel Ceplo (Delran-NJ) had three and Hannah Wertz (Manheim Twp.) two. Ceplo’s third goal gave La Salle a 10-goal lead in the second half to activate a running clock that would continue for the rest of regulation.

Emily Johnston (Ridley) had a strong game with a goal, an assist, and team-highs in caused turnovers (three) and draw controls (seven).

Lynne Frankel picked up the win and had eight saves.

St. Joe’s 15, Duquesne 4

The Hawks held the Dukes to just one first-half goal and put up double-digit goals for the third consecutive game as they earned a win over Duquesne in Atlantic 10 action on Sweeney Field. With the win, the Hawks improve to 8-6 overall (4-2 A-10) while the Dukes fall to 3-10 overall (1-5 A-10).

Junior midfielder Sinead Brierley (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) scored a game-high four goals while junior attacker Francesca Donato (Neshaminy) registered a game-high five points (3g, 2a).

Junior midfielder Rebecca Lane added a hat trick, which included her 100th career goal on her second goal of the game at the 11:31 mark of the first half.

Graduate student goalkeeper Liz O’Sullivan made eight saves, including seven in a first half in which she held the Dukes to just one goal.
