Matt McIlroy

High School: Westfield High School, NJ

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: Defense

College Choice: University of Denver

Club Affiliation: Leading Edge Elite Lacrosse

Major lacrosse honors: Maverick Showtime, All-Star at MVP Session 2, NSCLA Tournament, Varsity starter as a Freshman

What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose Denver? “I chose the University of Denver for their strong academics and competitive lacrosse program. I am particularly interested in the Daniels School of Business.

“After meeting with Coach (Bill) Tierney, I knew the University of Denver was the right fit for me. I loved the campus location and the athletic facilities. Coach Tierney made me feel like I was already a part of the Denver lacrosse family. Attending Denver will give me exposure to living in a different part of the United States and working closely with teammates from all over the country and Canada.”

Outlook for your High School team? “Our main goal for next year would be to win the State championship.”

Additional Comments: “I would like to give special thanks to my family for all they have done for me. I would like to thank my parents, for taking me to all my lacrosse tournaments, college visits and for making me the man I am today. I would also like to thank my younger brother Patrick for always practicing with me and for his encouragement.

“I would also like to thank my High School Coach, Patrick Tuohy, for all his support and my Leading Edge Coaches Chris Roy and Marc Moreau, for their guidance and coaching.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the Westfield Lacrosse Club for their time and commitment to the Westfield lacrosse program.”
