From Press Releases and Staff Reports

After the cancellation of the “Fall Brawl For A Cure” at PPL Park, Loyola University will host men’s lacrosse teams from Villanova University, Siena College, and Stony Brook University at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, October 22.

Each team will play two games during the day. Loyola will play Stony Brook at 1 p.m. and Siena at 3:30 on Awalt Field, the main field at Ridley. Villanova takes on Siena at 1 p.m. and Stony Brook at 3:30 on Sean Lugano Field, a surface that is adjacent to the main field.

“In lieu of playing in the Philadelphia area, we are pleased to welcome Siena, Stony Brook and Villanova to Ridley,” Loyola Head Coach Charley Toomey said. “We are excited to get out on the field and see some great lacrosse on the 22nd.”

Waterbucket Media, in association with PPL Park, had announced in early May at a press conference that the venue would host the first-ever men’s college lacrosse games on October 22. Highlighted by a double-header that was to involve the four college programs, the Fall Brawl for a Cure was slated be a day-long event with fundraising efforts being conducted to benefit cancer research.

The Fall Brawl for a Cure also was to include a club tournament. In August, the nationally-rated Duke’s Lacrosse Club was asked to be involved, according to Dukes head coach Ebe Helm.

Officials at Waterbucket informed the media recently that the event had been canceled, but referred all questions as to the status of the event to Comcast Spectator. A call to Comcast has not yet been returned.
