Gwynedd Mercy Academy rising senior midfielder Jamie Bumgardner has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at George Washington University.
Bumgardner had 71 goals and 29 assists last year for Gwynedd Mercy and earned First Team Athletic Association of Catholic Academies honors. Bumgardner, who plays club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal and played on the Philly 4 team at the National Tournament in May, plans to become a nurse.
“I went to GW for a camp and fell in love with the campus,” she said. “I loved D.C. and the coach (Tara Hannaford) and got along with the players. It seemed like a perfect fit.
“I am looking to major in Exercise Science and nursing for a master’s degree.”
Bumgardner will join Ultimate Goal teammate Jacqui Stevens (Princeton Day School, Yardley native) as a GW recruit.
Bumgardner said Gwynedd Mercy has a young team, but also has the potential to improve its record in 2011.
“We’re a really young team and I think we have a lot of potential,” she said. “We have a lot of good athletes and I think we’ll keep getting better as the year goes along.”
