Conestoga rising senior midfielder Amanda Norcini has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Drexel University.

Norcini plans on majoring in engineering. “I thought Drexel was a perfect fit because it’s not too big and it has a great engineering program,” she said. “I also love that it’s in Philadelphia so it’s not too far away.”

Norcini eagerly awaits the unique experience of playing college lacrosse, explaining, “Coach (Anna Marie) Vesco has a great team and there are already three girls from Conestoga there. They have an amazing future and I’m excited to have that camaraderie and to be on a team that is really like a family.”

Norcini was a first-team All-Central League pick for the second straight year in 2009. Also an Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com pick, she led Conestoga in draw controls (40) and forced turnovers (35). She also was a member of Conestoga’s 2007 and 2008 PIAA Champion soccer teams.

Although Conestoga lost in the second round of districts to Unionville, Norcini is proud of the Pioneers’ progress and is looking ahead to next season. Two other Conestoga rising seniors recently committed to Division I colleges: midfield/attack Theresa Brady (Old Dominion) and defender Colleen Guinan (Temple).

“We’re a young team,” Norcini said. “But this (2009) was a good rebuilding year. I definitely think our coach will get us ready for next season. We’ll all have to step up and I’m looking forward to taking more leadership.”

Norcini was also a member of the Philly 1 team that won the crown at the US lacrosse National Tournament in May and was on the Philly Under Armour team that placed third in the Underclassmen Games in June.
