Shane Morrell scored three goals and added two assists while Tyler Odell had two goals as visiting Episcopal Academy defeated Downingtown East, 7-2, today in a rain-soaked non-league boys’ lacrosse game.
Chase Growney added a goal and an assist for the Churchmen, who improve to 5-0. Andrew Gordon and Sam Lawlor each added one goal and Connor Haab had two assists while Tyler Morrell made eight saves in goal.
Radnor 6, Great Valley 2
Tyler Murkley collected two goals and an assist and Harrison Lawrence scored twice as the Red Raiders improved to 2-0.
Jeff Puckette and Spencer Lussier each scored once for Radnor while Brendan Manderack made seven saves in goal.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 8, Upper Merion 6
Pat Nolan scored four goals and Zach Schulman added a pair as the Colonials held off the Vikings in a Suburban One American Conference game between two teams expected to contend.
PW seized a 7-2 lead at halftime, but the Vikes fought back in terrible conditions and drew within, 7-6 at one point. Colonials goalie Kevin Hennessy made some key saves and had eight in all.
Colin Joka and Andrew Cox each scored once for PW.
Upper Merion junior goalie Conor Crowe (19 saves) was outstanding for the Vikings, who lost senior standout attackman Nate Hare (committed to Robert Morris) early in the game due to an injury. Hare was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but should be back in the lineup next week when the Vikings meet Norristown on Tuesday.
“It was really cold and sloppy and Upper Merion definitely had the adrenaline pushing,” PW coach Phil Chang said. “We caught some breaks. Crowe played real well, he came up big.”
Luke Minnich had two goals for Upper Merion while Trevor Kupecky had a goal and three assists. John Widmaier had a goal and an assist and James Brennan and Pat Vandergeest each had one goal.
Upper Darby 10, Monsignor Bonner 3
Jake Syre scored three goals as the Royals captured their opener.
Dave Gasbarro had two goals and two assists while JJ Maloney had two goals and Andy Mardinley had a goal and two assists. Jon Neigh and Joe Brown each scored once and Dillon Burke made 11 saves in goal.
Central Bucks West 9, Pennridge 6
Jimmy Mann had three goals and an assist and Spencer Macquarrie had two goals annd an assist for the Bucks (1-1) in their Suburban One Continental Conference win.
Nate Weiss added two goals to the win and Tanner Barbon had a goal and an assist and won 13 of 18 faceoffs. Jack Firriolo had a goal and Johnny Kirchner added an assist while Jake Ross made 11 saves in goal.
Craig Hunsberger led the Rams with three goals.
Shipley 7, Hilton Head (SC) 6
Sophomore goalie Ian McGibbon posted 21 saves in goal to help the Gators improve to 3-0 as they continue on their southern trip. Hilton Head was 11-0 entering the game and ranked No. 1 in the state by LaxPower’s Computer Rankings.
Matt Gagnier led the Shipley scoring with three goals, while Mac Gallagher had two goals and two assists and Mike Litner had a goal and two assists. EJ Whyte added one goal.
The Shipley defense has held their opponents to 10 goals in three games this season from the support of James Brownstein, Travis Rosenbluth, Danny Brown, Jorge McConnie-Saad, Gore Kamara, Eric Loreaux, Stephen Gentry and Jamie Piltch.
Shipley next takes on Bluffton on Thursday at 5 p.m. before heading home.

Tyler Johnston notched three goals to lead the Green Raiders (1-1) to the victory.
Archbishop Carroll 18, Harriton 4
Brian Keith pumped in five goals to lead the Patriots to the win.
