Bishop Shanahan senior midfielder Jim Stanley has made a commitment

Bishop Shanahan's Jim Stanley

to play Division III lacrosse at Ursinus College.

Stanley was a first-team All-Ches-Mont League pick last year and has helped the Eagles get off to an 8-3 start (3-2 in Ches-Mont) this year. He plays club lacrosse for Team HEADstrong.

Stanley plans to major in Business with a focus on pre-med.

“I chose Ursinus because they have a great pre-med program,” Stanley said. “Coach (Jamie) Steele is a great guy and the program is on the rise and I want to be a part of that.”

Stanley joins a long list of Philly seniors that have committed to Ursinus. One is Shanahan teammate Jordan McGinty (midfielder) and others include defenseman Michael Irvine and attackman Scott Hueber (Malvern Prep), defenseman Dan Cohen (Conestoga), defenseman Ari Weisband (Lower Merion) and attackman Jordan Demcher (Springfield-Delco). This year the Bears went 8-5.

Stanley is one of four Eagles to commit to play college lacrosse at the Division III level. Also, defenseman Jake Farrell has committed to Susquehanna and attackman Michael Thompson has committed to DeSales.

For now, Stanley is focused on helping the Eagles challenge for a Ches-Mont title and a District 1 playoff berth under veteran coach Jon Heisman, in his first year with Bishop Shanahan.

“We still have the hardest part of our schedule to come, but I feel as though all the guys are buying into the new system and that we have a shot at taking the Ches-Mont,” Stanley said. “If we stay together and keep playing unselfish ball I think we can be very dangerous.”
