Women’s recruit: Mount St. Joseph senior midfielder Wells commits to Columbia

Mount St. Joseph senior midfielder Stevie Wells has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Columbia University.

Wells earned Athletic Association of Catholic Academies honors last year and was a US Lacrosse

Mount St. Joseph midfielder Stevie Wells has committed to Columbia

Academic All-American, helping the Mount place third in the league and qualify for the District 1 tournament.

“I chose Columbia because not only is it a beautiful school,” said Wells, “but this opportunity enabled me to play lacrosse and attend one of the best universities in the country.”

Wells is also a Pennsylvania Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association Student Athlete and intends to major in biomedical engineering. “I love math and science and my father and brother are engineers,” she said.

Columbia is coached by first-year mentor Liz Kittleman, a former Penn assistant.

Wells, a member of the National Honors Society, National Spanish Honor Society and a consistent honor roll student, plays for Ultimate Goal Lacrosse club team.

Since breaking in as a starter her freshman year, Wells has greatly contributed to a changing team during the past three years.

“My goal is to begin the season right where we left off the last,” said Wells. “We have some great talent on our team and I am definitely looking forward to making it to the championship this year.”
