Westwood senior defenseman Ryan Cassidy has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Eastern University.
Cassidy said he also considered Washington & Lee and Marymount but settled on the St. Davids, Pa.-based school because of the make-up of the team and the school.
“I really liked the team,” Cassidy said. “They were close-knit and very diverse, and you could tell they had a lot of chemistry. They didn’t have a football team, so they don’t have to compete with that.”
Cassidy is the second Texan this season to commit to a college program in the Philadelphia area. He joins St. Mary’s Hall senior Paul Swann, who will be heading to Penn in the fall.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Cassidy said. “I really like the idea of playing with a bunch of people who take lacrosse as seriously as I do. I’m really looking forward to the speed as well. It will be a fun challenge.”
