Downingtown East senior midfielder Kelli Joran has signed a letter of intent to play at Drexel University.
Joran, who plans to major in sports management, said she liked both the academics and coaching staff at Drexel.
“I picked Drexel because they have a good co-cop program and because I really liked the team and the coach (Anna Marie Vesco). I’m excited to get to play Division I lacrosse, I didn’t think I’d get that opportunity.
“I also liked the fact that at Drexel lacrosse isn’t your whole life. And it will be nice to be in the city. There is a lot to do and I’ll never get bored.”
Joran, a first-team All-Ches-Mont National Conference pick last year, helped the Cougars finish 16-5 last year. In the summer she earned all-tourney honors while representing the PA Express Lacrosse Club in the prestigious Vail Shootout.
Joran also was an Academic All-American in 2008 and boasts a 3.8 GPA.
She said this year’s Downingtown East team will be inexperienced, but has potential.
“We have only three or four seniors out this year, but I think we’ll have a pretty good team,” she said.
