District 1 has announced that the first boys’ lacrosse tournament will feature 28 teams and begin on May 12.
Seven teams will advance to the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) tournament, which begins May 26. The first PIAA state title will be held June 6 at HersheyPark as part of as doubleheader with the girls’ championship game.
The only automatic qualifiers for the 28-team field will be the champions of the Central League, Suburban One conferences (three), Ches-Mont League and Pioneer Athletic Conference.
The rest of the field will be comprised of at-large teams, which will be determined by District 1 committee reps. These berths will be based on overall record and strength of schedule as well as performance against common opponents.
The first two games in the tourney will be hosted by the higher seeds and the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held at neutral sites.
The district tourney field will be determined on Sunday, May 10. The dates of the remaining rounds will be May 14 (second round), May 16 (quarterfinals), May 19 (semifinals) and May 22 (finals).
Playback games to determine the third through seventh seeds will also be played on May 19 and May 22.
