U.S. celebrates July 4th with its own fireworks in 21-7 rout of Australia

Team USA celebrated Independence Day with a dominating 21-7 win over Australia in pool play of the International Lacrosse Federation Under-19 World Championship in British Columbia, Canada.

Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport/Georgetown) led all scorers with four goals while defenders John Lade (Randolph, N.J./Randolph/Villanova rising sophomore), Peter Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Gilman/Brown) and Bray Malphrus (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep/Virginia), anchored a suffocating defensive performance, including a shutout in the third quarter.

The U.S. dominance began at the X where face-off specialist Matt Dolente (Malvern Prep/Johns Hopkins rising sophomore) won 17 of 24 attempts.

Two other Philly products, James Green (Central Bucks East, Ohio State rising junior) and Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep, Penn State freshman), scored two goals apiece.
