Phillylacrosse.com Girls’ Rankings: Radnor-Archbishop Carroll, Springfield-Delco-Unionville matchups highlight quarterfinals

     The action intensifies Saturday with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association quarterfinals. This week’s Phillylacrosse.com Girls’ Rankings:

     1. Springfield-Delco (22-2) – The District 1 champion Cougars have a second life after surviving a major scare against a game Boyertown in Tuesday’s 14-13 overtime win. Unionville figures to give the Cougars another big test when they meet at 8 p.m. at West Chester East. Last Week: No. 2.

    2. Radnor (22-1) – The Red Raiders rebounded from the district finals loss to Springfield-Delco with a 22-14 scorefest over North Penn. It could get tougher with District 12 champ Archbishop Carroll at WC East at 6 p.m. Last Week: No. 1.

    3. Strath Haven (19-4) – The Panthers, after a 19-4 laugher over Penn Manor, are a clear favorite as they gear for Saturday’s meeting with Hempfield of District 3 at 1 p.m. at Exeter. Last Week: No. 3.

    4. Episcopal Academy (18-5) – The Churchwomen won their fifth straight Inter-Ac League crown this year. Last Week: No. 5.

    5. Archbishop Carroll (15-5) – The Patriots are peaking at the right time. Their attack looked quite strong in Tuesday’s 18-13 triumph over Bayard Rustin Last week: No. 8.

    6. Unionville (20-3) – The Indians are pleased to get another shot at Springfield, a team they fell to 17-13 on May 1. Last Week: No. 5.

    7. Bayard Rustin (19-4) – The Golden Knights were ousted by a red-hot Carroll squad that they defeated, 13-8, at Katie Samson. Last Week: No. 4.

    8. North Penn (20-3) – The Maidens could not hold down the Radnor attack in the 22-14 loss and dropped three of their last four games. Still, they went undefeated in the Suburban One Continental Conference and took a solid sixth place in the district. Last Week: No. 6.

   9. Boyertown (19-4-1) – The Bears took their best shot at beating Springfield-Delco and nearly pulled off a major upset. They won their sixth straight Pioneer Athletic Conference crown. Last week: NR.

   10. Merion Mercy (15-5) – The Bears also had their chance at beating Springfield-Delco when they fell, 15-14 in the second round of districts. They won the Catholic Acadrmies League crown. Last week: NR.

    Teams to watch: (in alphabetic order): Abington, Archbishop Wood, Baldwin School,  Conestoga, Downingtown East, Downingtown West, Germantown Academy, Notre Dame, Upper Dublin, Villa Maria Academy.
