The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) have announced that the team will be collecting supplies and household goods for its adopted “Magnificent Bastards” Marine Company as fans enter the team’s American Heroes Night game against the Washington Stealth at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items (canned soups, canned vegetables, Tastykakes etc.), gloves, socks and media materials such as magazines, DVDs and CDs for the troops.
The “Magnificent Bastards” Marines Mobile Assault Company is composed of 120 Marines across three different combat platoons, all currently stationed in Afghanistan. The company is tentatively scheduled to return home in April.
Earlier this summer, the Wings sent a banner over to the “Magnificent Bastards” as a token of appreciation and support for all they do to serve our country. In addition, the company will be honored during the game and members of Third Platoon Commander Lieutenant Maxwell Bernstein’s family as well as First Platoon Commander Jeremy Forrer’s family will be in attendance at the game.
Additionally, the Wings will be auctioning off their players’ custom-made camouflage jerseys in the Cure Insurance Club after Saturday’s games with all proceeds going to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project.
“Thank you so much for what you are doing, it means a lot to us out here, especially since some of our close friends are now wounded warriors” said Lieutenant Bernstein in an email from Afghanistan.
The Wounded Warrior project’s mission is “to honor and empower wounded warriors” and exists to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
