Thursday’s women’s college roundup: Holy Family, Swarthmore earn wins

The Holy Family University women’s lacrosse team picked up its second win in nine days against Wilmington University with a 17-8 victory at Tiger Field Thursday afternoon.

Holy Family improves to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC after the win, while Wilmington is now 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the CACC.

Senior Jennifer James (Little Flower) exploded for a game-high seven goals to lead the Holy Family offense. James scored four goals in the first half and had three in the second. Junior Gina Mansi scored a pair of goals and in the process surpassed the 100-career goal mark. Mansi is the second player to record 100 career goals this season.

Juniors Samantha Cornely and Lauren Greco Council Rock South) each tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the Tigers. Melissa Jenkins (Interboro) made 18 saves in goal.

Dominican 11, Chestnut Hill 7

Brianne Timony led CHC with three goals and an assist.

Division III

Swarthmore 21, Wesley 11

Sophomore Annalise Penikis (Strath Haven) had a hand in 10 of the Garnet goals, recording five goals and five assists. Junior Marie Mutryn netted four goals and four assists, freshman Corinne Sommi added five goals, while sophomore Nicole Vanchieri (4), senior Emily Evans (2) and sophomore Beth Martin rounded out Swat’s scoring.

Scranton 16, Cabrini 11

Katie Slade (Central Bucks East) and Kaitlin Lazorko (Nazareth Academy) each scored twice and Kathleen Smart (Archbishop Wood) made 12 saves to lead the Royals to the victory over the Cavaliers.

Jamie O’Hanlon (Springfield-Delco) had five goals to lead Cabrini.

Washington College 17, Bryn Mawr 6

Natalie Chrismer scored three goals for Bryn Mawr.
