Philly’s Hamm (Baldwin School), Garrity (Strath Haven), Corzel (Merion Mercy) are keys for Duke, UNC women

The return of oft-injured Emma Hamm (Baldwin School) has helped make Duke the No. 4 rated team in the Inside Lacrosse online pre-season rankings for Division I in women’s lacrosse this year.

Hamm, a standout as a freshman when she earned Third Team All-American honors, has been hampered by injuries for two years and sat out all of 2010 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“She’s a huge playmaker for us in so many ways and one of our most explosive offensive players,” Duke coach Kerstin Kimel (Haverford High alum) told Inside Lacrosse about Hamm.

Meanwhile, sophomore Emily Garrity (Strath Haven) and freshman Margert Corzel (Merion Mercy) are key players for No. 3-ranked North Carolina.

At North Carolina, the report noted that Garrity – a starter as a freshman after being named Phillylacrosse.com’s Player of the Year in 2009 when she led the Panthers to the state finals – should play a bigger role in the team’s transition game. Garrity had 26 points last year.

Corzel, an All-Phillylacrosse.com pick last year for the league champs, is expected to make an immediate impact at midfield.
