Weekend women’s D3 roundup: Swarthmore tops Ursinus

Leading wire to wire, the Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse team (6-1, 1-0) opened Centennial Conference action with a 12-9 victory over Ursinus College (2-4, 0-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Annalise Penikis (Strath Haven) led all scorers with four goals and two assists, while collected two groundballs, two draws and two caused turnovers.

Elyse Tierney, Sara Lentricchia, and Lucy Whitacre each tallied two goals for Swarthmore in the victory. Emma Sipperly notched a goal and Nicole Vanchieri tallied a goal and four draws.
Garnet keepers junior Michelle Ammerman collected three saves in 40:34 minutes and freshman Connie Bowen caught three saves in 19:26 minutes of action.

Nicole Kovacs led the Bears with three goals and keeper Riley Pembroke stopped six shots in the effort.

The victory is the Garnet’s first regular-season win over Ursinus since 1997.

Widener 19, Gwynedd-Mercy 6

Senior Julia Costello (Cardinal O’Hara) and sophomore Melissa Sailey (Kingsway) each scored three times during an 11-goal run that bridged both halves, lifting Widener.
Danae Perrymond had four goals for Gwynedd.

Arcadia 17, Immaculata 10

The Knights (3-3) won their third straight contest and went undefeated for the week after a win over the Mighty Macs (4-3). Dawn Faranetta led the way for the Knights with five goals.
Kelly Lapp (Central Bucks East) had three goals for Immaculata.

Neumann 17, Centenary 5

Amanda Fedak (Pope John Paul II) and Rebecca Dolenti (Pottsgrove) scored four goals each in the game to lead the Knights.

Cabrini 18, Notre Dame 6

Freshmen Nathalie Basunga (Springfield-Delco)and Katie Lasater (Great Valley) led the way with a combined 13 points in the Cavs’ first win of the year. Basunga totaled seven points on four goals and three assists, while Lasater found the net six times.

Sophomore Lacie Doubet (Ridley) chipped in with five points on a goal and helpers, while senior Christina Pasquariello (Harriton) matched Doubet with five points, recording three goals and a pair of assists.
