The Mesa Fresh 2015 team went 3-0 at the Warrior Fall Ball National Recruiting Tournament hosted by St Paul’s School in Baltimore on Sunday.
Coming off an impressive summer the Mesa 2015’s played in High School “A” division, facing some of the best teams at the event. Mesa opened with a 7-4 win over the Cavalier Lacrosse club from Northern Virginia.
Mesa started slowly falling behind 3-2 early but rallied in the second half outscoring the Cavliers 4-1 to take the victory. In the second game they faced the hosts and perennial Maryland power St Paul’s. Hustle and team work helped Mesa came away with an 8-5 win. In the final game Mesa faced an all star team from New England, IAS, and won 9-2.
After Coach Peter Rohr said “this team plays hard and helps each other, we focus on team work and it showed today.” Mesa had balanced scoring with ten different players finding the back of the net. The defense was solid all day led by Ben Euler, Jake Peden, Jack Twohig, Mike Mulqueen, and LSM’s Logan Atkinson and Damase Bagbonon.
Goaltenders Alex Andersen, Jack Green and Sean McGoven gave up only 11 goals in three games. Andersen said, “We call it Mesa Ball, and it means we play as a team; no player is more important than any other and when we do it right we get great results.”
Mesa was also dominant at the Face Off X with Jake Hervada and Charles Kelly winning over 80% of the draws. In December the team is going to Orlando, Fla., to play in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions.
