From Press Release

The Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse team snapped a three-game skid in dominant fashion, defeating Delaware, 15-5, this afternoon at Sweeney Field.

The Hawks secured the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Betterment Men’s Lacrosse Championship and will face No. 2 seed High Point in the semifinals on Thursday, April 30.

Richmond claimed the No. 1 overall seed after defeating High Point on the final day of the regular season, handing the Panthers their first conference loss.

A three-team tiebreaker between Saint Joseph’s, Massachusetts and Delaware — all of whom finished 3-3 in conference play — determined the remaining seeds. The deadlock was broken by goals allowed in head-to-head competition, with the Hawks earning the No. 3 seed and UMass taking No. 4.

Saint Joseph’s (6-5) will play in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. against High Point. The Hawks are led offensively by Ben Dutton, who has a team-high 33 points and 30 goals, while Collin Campbell and Griffin Mallory have each added 31 points.

The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday at noon. The tournament champion will earn the Atlantic 10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

How it Went
Ben Dutton opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, finishing a feed from Collin Campbell (Sanford School-DE) to spark a 3-0 run that also featured goals from Keaton Zavitz and Campbell. Delaware ended its early drought midway through the first quarter, but Owen Staunton answered with a takeaway and transition goal — the first of his career — to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead after one.

After the Blue Hens cut the deficit to two, Saint Joseph’s responded with consecutive goals from Jack Fiordalis and Colby Wood, followed by Will Barber (Emmaus) to extend the lead to 7-2. The Hawks continued to build momentum with another 3-0 run, as Wood, Aidan Kreydt (Springfield-Delco) and Jack McGorry (Allentown Central Catholic) each found the net to push the advantage to seven. Delaware scored late in the half to make it 10-4 at the break.

Following a scoreless stretch to open the second half, Trae Ika got on the board before Dutton converted on a man-up opportunity for his third extra-man goal of the season. Dutton and Campbell traded assists on two late goals to extend the lead to 14-5 entering the fourth quarter.

Dutton capped the scoring with his fourth goal of the day, while the Hawk defense held Delaware scoreless over the final 20 minutes. Charlie Giachetti made six of his 11 saves in the fourth quarter to secure the 15-5 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Ben Dutton led all scorers with four goals and one assist for five points.
Collin Campbell matched him with a career-high five points (two goals, three assists).
Colby Wood added two goals for his fifth multi-goal game.
Griffin Mallory recorded three assists and leads the team with 21 on the season.
Jack McGorry (4GB) and Aidan Kreydt each scored their third goals of the year from the defensive midfield.
Jared Karabinus (Freedom) went 8-for-16 at the faceoff X.
Michael Gaughan and Ryan Bradley each caused three turnovers, with Gaughan setting a career high.
Owen Staunton scored his first collegiate goal.
Charlie Giachetti finished with 11 saves to earn his first win of the season.
Saint Joseph’s outshot Delaware, 45-36, including a 33-16 edge in shots on goal, and held advantages in ground balls (35-21) and clears (18-for-19).
St. Joe’s remained unbeaten when taking a lead into the half (5-0) and into the fourth quarter (6-0). The Hawks move to 5-0 when allowing fewer than 10 goals.
Saint Joseph’s is now 5-17 all-time against Delaware, all five wins coming in the last nine meetings.
