From Press Release
Perkiomen School will begin competition in the Friends Schools League (FSL) this fall under a provisional two-year membership. Following a multiyear review process, Perkiomen will become the league’s 10th member school, joining a respected group of independent schools that share a commitment to competitive excellence, sportsmanship and student-athlete development.
For Perkiomen, joining the FSL supports several important goals, including expanding opportunities for student-athletes, strengthening relationships with peer schools and deepening connections throughout the greater Philadelphia community. Perkiomen will benefit from competing within a single league, creating greater consistency in scheduling and competition.
“We are honored to be a part of a select group of schools who love to compete but have a balanced perspective,” said Head of School Mark A. Devey. “Our school cultures blend well together and value genuine student-athletes.”
Perkiomen’s athletics program includes 23 varsity programs and 33 teams across varsity, junior varsity and middle school levels. More than 250 students participate in varsity athletics. Perkiomen has a strong tradition of preparing student-athletes for collegiate competition while focusing on leadership, academics, character and personal growth. The teams had been competing as an independent.
“Joining the Friends Schools League is an exciting step forward for Perkiomen Athletics,” said Athletic Director Tom Mariano. “Our students will benefit from outstanding competition and the opportunity to compete against schools that share our commitment to developing the whole student-athlete. We look forward to building meaningful relationships with peer schools and representing Perkiomen within a league whose philosophy aligns closely with our own.”
Founded in 1981, the FSL is one of the region’s most respected independent school athletic conferences. The league includes both Friends and non-Friends schools and emphasizes Quaker values, sportsmanship and a high level of competition. The 2026-27 school year marks the league’s 45th anniversary and Perkiomen’s first year of provisional membership.
Other member schools include Abington Friends School, The Academy of the New Church, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, Germantown Friends School, George School, Friends’ Central School, Friends Select School, The Shipley School, and Westtown School.
Perkiomen students and coaches will begin competing in Friends Schools League contests this fall, beginning an exciting new chapter for Perkiomen’s athletic program and furthering its commitment to providing exceptional educational and athletic experiences.
