Springfield-Delco has named alum and assistant Ryne Adolph as its boys’ lacrosse coach.
Adolph, a 2003 Springfield grad, had been an assistant under former coach Tom Lemieux since 2012, shortly after playing 4 years and serving as a senior captain at Maryland.
Adolph served as defensive coordinator and helped guide the Cougars to two Central League titles, six District 1 Championships, and three PIAA State Championships. Lemieux stepped down after a 21-3 season that ended in the PIAA Class 3A semifinals. Under Lemieux, Springfield won PIAA crowns in 2016, 2017, and 2025, boasting a 273-75 record over his 15 seasons as head coach.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to be selected as the next head coach of Springfield High School lacrosse,” said Adolph in a letter to the Springfield players and parents.
“As a proud Springfield alum, this program has meant so much to me for a very long time. From my days as a player wearing the jersey to the last 15 years coaching on the sidelines, Springfield Lacrosse has played a major role in shaping who I am. To now have the opportunity to lead the program is something I do not take lightly.”
Adolph said coaching under Lemieux – considered one of the elite coaches around the state and well beyond – provided him with an ideal model.
“At the same time, I know very well that you do not replace a coach like Tom Lemieux,” Adolph wrote in his letter. “What Coach Lemieux has built here is truly remarkable. He helped take Springfield from being a highly respected program in the state to one that is consistently recognized on a national level.
“The standard that exists today was built through years of hard work, consistency, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.
“I have been fortunate to learn from him for many years, and I am grateful for the trust, guidance, and friendship he has provided throughout my coaching career. The lessons go far beyond lacrosse. Leadership, discipline, accountability, toughness, preparation, and pride in representing something bigger than yourself are all values that have defined Springfield Lacrosse under Coach Lemieux, and they are values that will continue to move this program forward.
“Our goal will remain the same: to compete at the highest level possible while developing young men who represent Springfield the right way on and off the field. We want our players to understand the responsibility that comes with wearing the S, and we want alumni and supporters to continue feeling proud of the program every time they watch us compete.
“One of the greatest strengths of Springfield Lacrosse has always been the people connected to it. The alumni, parents, families, youth coaches, and supporters have all helped build the tradition that exists today. I look forward to continuing those relationships and strengthening the connection between past and present players as we move into this next chapter together.”
Said Lemieux (also the Springfield athletic director): “Ryne Adolph is everything we were looking for in the next leader of Springfield Lacrosse. He grew up in our community, understands what makes Springfield special, and has established himself as one of the premier coaches in our area. We are excited to welcome Ryne into this new role and look forward to the impact he will have on our student-athletes and program.”
Before joining the staff at Springfield, Adolph spent a year coaching at Division I VMI. Adolph was a member of an ACC Championship team at Maryland and made two trips to the Final Four as a defenseman and LSM. Adolph played in all 16 games for Maryland his senior year, starting 14 of those contests as Maryland advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, where they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker to second-ranked Virginia.
Adolph was a four-year varsity player for Springfield. His teams made the state playoffs each year and advanced to the Final Four in 2002. Adolph serves as the Dean of Students at E.T. Richardson Middle School in the Springfield School District.
Adolph was a lacrosse and football standout at Springfield and served as team captain as a senior in leading the Cougars to a 19-4 record in 2003. He was named first team all-county in lacrosse and second team all-county in football, playing both fullback and outside linebacker.
