Limitless Philly Women’s Game of the Day: Temple clips Drexel, 11-6; Owls improve to 12-4

Temple women’s lacrosse (12–4, 3–3 American) defeated Drexel (5–10, 2–4 CAA) 11–6 Tuesday afternoon at Howarth Field. Brooke Mazzei and Lexi Culp (Cardinal O’Hara) led the Owls with three goals each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lexi Culp opened the scoring with a free-position goal. Brooke Mazzei followed with a goal off an assist from Sarah Gowman (Twin Valley) to give Temple an early 2–0 lead. Drexel’s Bea Buckley scored late in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 2–1.

Sabrina Martin netted Temple’s second free-position goal, followed by goals from Mazzei and Gowman to extend the lead to 5–2. Mary Claire Heubeck responded for the Dragons, but Gowman answered to keep the Owls ahead by three, 6–3, at halftime.

Culp opened the second half with her second goal of the game to push the lead to four. Lily Caravela and Mazzei added back-to-back goals to extend Temple’s advantage to 9–4. Goals from Culp and Amelia Wright gave the Owls their largest lead of the game at 11–4.

Drexel made a late push with goals from Heubeck and Alexys McClain (WC Rustin), but Temple held on for the 11–6 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX

Kaitlyn Stankavage (Garnet Valley) led the Owls in ground balls with six
Anastasia Ciminera (Cardinal O’Hara) registered two caused turnovers.
Jenna Facciolli dished out a career-high three assists.

Temple awaits the results of Saturday’s USF vs. Vanderbilt and ECU vs. Charlotte matchups to determine its postseason status.
