Staff Report

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks women’s lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead, but a second-quarter surge by Georgetown proved decisive as the Hawks fell, 8-6, Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

Despite the loss, Alexa Capozzoli (Episcopal Academy) etched her name into the record book, becoming the program’s all-time assists leader. Capozzoli finished with three helpers to reach 112 career assists, surpassing Stephanie Kelly’s (2018-21) previous mark of 110.

Saint Joseph’s (1-4) opened the game with three first-quarter goals, including two from Olivia McCloskey, to take a 3-2 advantage after 15 minutes. Georgetown (4-1) responded in the second quarter with three unanswered goals, highlighted by two from Sophia Loschert, to carry a 5-3 lead into halftime.

The Hawks trimmed the deficit twice in the third quarter. Emma Yoder (Springfield-Montco) scored early to make it 5-4 before McCloskey’s third goal with 2:09 remaining in the period pulled Saint Joseph’s within 6-5. After the Hoyas extended the lead late in the quarter, Kate Fuhrman’s fourth-quarter strike cut the margin to 7-6, but Loschert completed her hat trick with 5:15 remaining to seal the Georgetown victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
McCloskey paced the Hawks with three goals and an assist.
Capozzoli finished with a goal and three assists, with her second assist establishing the program record. The Ridley Park, Pa. native sits four points shy of becoming the fourth Hawk to reach 200 career points.
