Charlotte senior Kylie Gioia (Marple Newtown) has been named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Attack Player of the Week after leading the 49ers to a dominant 20-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday in the program’s inaugural women’s lacrosse game. Additionally, graduate student Claire Schotta earned an Honorable Mention from the league, as announced Monday afternoon.

Gioia had the top offensive performance in the conference through the first week of play in The AAC. The Broomall native finished Saturday tied for the game-high with four goals and three assists, etching her name into the record books by securing the first-ever hat trick in Charlotte history. Scoring three goals before halftime, Gioia’s second and third scores came 83 seconds apart in the second quarter. She had four points (two goals, two assists) in the second period as Charlotte outscored Gardner-Webb 8-0 in the frame. Gioia also added five draw controls.
BC’s Clark (Conestoga) named ACC Offensive Player of the Week
Boston College senior attack Rachel Clark earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors.
A native of Devon, Clark led the No. 1 Eagles to a 2-0 week with a team-best 12 goals along with a pair of ground balls and one caused turnover in wins over No. 10 Loyola Maryland and Boston University. She matched her career best with seven goals in the 21-7 win over Loyola Maryland on Friday, February 8, and followed that performance up with five scores in the 21-6 win over Boston University. Her 12 goals lead the ACC through the first week of the season.
