The host Neumann University Men’s Lacrosse team used a strong final quarter and seven goals and three assists from Brendan Boschi to defeat King’s College, 20-11, on Tuesday night.

Connor Hurley collected four goals and an assist to aid the Neumann (2-1) attack, while Gannon McKee (Garnet Valley) notched a hat-trick and Connor Paradis contributed two goals. Jake Methlie (Springfield-Delco) had a huge game, winning 19 of 21 faceoffs and grabbing 14 ground balls. Defensively, Luke Sykes (Pope John Paul II) caused three turnovers while getting a goal and an assist. Owen Avelar (Methacton) made 17 saves with Cory Hemberger (Neshaminy) mopping up with four.

After Paradis led off with a goal in the first three minutes, King’s took a 2-1 lead. Over the last six minutes of the opening quarter, Neumann rattled off seven straight to take command of the game. Boschi got three, Sykes, Darius Thompson, Morris, and McKee got one each as the Knights had an 8-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.

The Monarchs again started a quarter strong, this time with two goals on 3:05 but Hurley and Boschi responded to extended the lead back to six. King’s scored three in a row over the next seven minutes, but with 10 seconds left in the half, Hurley put in a key goal for an 11-7 advantage at the break.

McKee picked up a man-up goal at the 12:58 mark of the third, but this time it was King’s who would dominate a quarter, scoring three goals over the last 11 minutes, pulling within two at 12-10. That seemed to alarm the Knights as they came out blazing in the fourth with six goals over the first 7:57. Boschi put up two more, Hurley, Braden Travaglini (Eastern Regional-NJ), McKee, and Paradis put up one each for an 18-10 lead. Although the Monarchs would push in a goal with just under five minutes remaining, Boschi and Hurley would close put the game.
