The PIAA is proud to announce the 25 coaches selected as the PIAA/NFHS Coaches of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year. Coaches are nominated from their school communities, PA coaches’ associations, Board of Directors, and PIAA staff. They are selected based on their impact to their specific sports program, success of their team(s), adherence to PIAA By-laws, and sportsmanship throughout the year.
As reported last month by Phillylacrosse.com (see article here), Conestoga’s Amy Orcutt was honored as the Girls’ Lacrosse Coach of the Year for the second time in three years. Orcutt led the Pioneers to the PIAA 3A championship and her team also earned the PASLA Team Service Award for its many community service projects. Orcutt also was named the Regional Coach of the Year two years ago.
The Boys’ Lacrosse Coach of the Year was Shawn Leydig of South Fayette (District 7), which reached the semifinals of the Class AA field in the PIAA tourney.
PIAA Executive Director, Dr. Robert Lombardi, “Education-based athletics is an integral part of the high school experience and would not be possible without the passion and dedication of our PIAA coaches. Thank you to our coaches for making a lasting impact on the lives of student-athletes each and every day.
“On behalf of the PIAA Board of Directors, our member schools, and all registered sports’ officials, we congratulate these individuals on their selection as 2023-2024 PIAA/NFHS Coaches of the Year.”
