From Press Release

Chestnut Hill College Director of Athletics and Recreation Jesse Balcer is proud to introduce Liz Martin (Collingswood-NJ, Temple University) as the college’s next Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. Martin becomes the 19th head coach in the history of the program which dates back to 1961.

“I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Coach Martin here at Chestnut Hill College, “said Balcer. “She is a proven head coach in the tri-State area and I have no doubt that she will be able to bring the women’s lacrosse program back to relevance in the CACC and the region.

“Aside from her track record as a fantastic two-sport D1 athlete at Temple University, she also has a great reputation for cultivating a family atmosphere within her programs, which was a huge factor in bringing Coach Martin on board. I look forward to watching this program grow.”

Martin brings a wealth of experience to the program having coached at the college level as both a head coach and an assistant coach for over 18 seasons at both Division I and Division III levels. She comes to Chestnut Hill from Division III Neumann University where she spent the last five seasons guiding the women’s lacrosse team to 32 wins during her tenure and reaching the Atlantic East Tournament semi-finals in each of the past three seasons.

“I am honored and excited to be named the head women’s lacrosse coach at Chestnut Hill College,” said Martin. “I want to thank Jesse Balcer and the entire athletic department for putting their faith in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. I am eager to share my passion and love of lacrosse and look forward to continue to elevate this program with a talented group of young women. I can’t wait to get started!”

Martin was both an assistant and a head coach at Division III Rutgers-Camden prior to Neumann, serving two stints with the program. In between her two stints at Rutgers-Camden, Martin was an assistant coach at Division I St. Joseph’s University.

Prior to her first stint at Rutgers-Camden, Martin was an assistant coach at the University of Delaware for five seasons. She began her coaching career in the 2004-05 season at Marist University.

An All-American at Temple University, Martin was a member of both the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams from 1999 to 2003. For lacrosse, Martin was a member of three consecutive Atlantic 10 championship teams and was named to three Atlantic 10 All-Tournament teams. In addition, Martin was named to the All-Conference First Team during both her sophomore and junior seasons and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2001 and 2002 A-10 Tournaments.

A 2004 graduate of Temple, Martin received her bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation management.

Martin started her coaching career as an assistant at Marist College during the 2004-05 season. She served as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware from 2005-10, prior to her first stint at Rutgers-Camden. Following her coaching with the Scarlet Raptors, she became an assistant coach at St. Joseph’s University, beginning with the 2012-13 season.
During her scholastic career at Collingswood, Martin letters in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. In soccer, she captured All-South Jersey Second Team honors in both 1997 and 1998, while adding NJGSCA State Soccer Recognition and Colonial Conference First Team honors both years. She also was named to the All-Group II First Team in 1998 and was selected for All-State and South Jersey All-Star games.

On the basketball court, Martin earned Colonial Conference First Team honors in 1998 and was selected to the South Jersey All-Star squad.

As amazing as her soccer and basketball honors were, it was lacrosse that was her best sport, earning her Women’s Division of US Lacrosse High School All-American Honorable Mention, among numerous other scholastic honors. She earned Olympic Conference National Division Second Team honors in 1997 and 1998 and captured National Division First Team recognition in 1999. She went on to earn WLCSJ All-South Jersey Second Team honors in 1998 and WLCSJ All-South Jersey First Team honors in 1999, when she also was a member of the WLCSJ North All-Star team.
