Three brothers from Harriton High School were members of the Turkish men’s lacrosse team that recently placed fourth in the 2024 EuroLax Sixes Cup in Algarve, Portugal.
Hakan, Jem and Korgan Atillasoy helped Team Turkey defeat Top 10-ranked Germany in a historic victory that pushed the squad into the third-place game.
Hakan Atillasoy (Ursinus College and the University of Michigan), Jem Atillasoy (Cornell Club) and Korgan Atillasoy (Brown University Club) helped Team Turkey reach the third-place game for the second straight year in the 12-team tourney. Other notable competitors on this year’s team included Bertan Unal (Providence College) Deniz Piatt, (Kean University), goaltender Yoel Ovadya (Drew University), Ege Zeybeck (Lehigh University Club).
The Turkish team has made a dramatic turnaround the past 2 years in international competition. In April 2022, Türkiye went 0-5 in the European Championships which acted as a qualifier for the most recent World Lacrosse Championships. Since then, the Turks have won 2 medals in Olympic-Sixes Lacrosse. With a win against the Top-10 World Ranked Germany, the program has received newly welcomed support and interest from other programs who recognize the recent success of the developing program.
Türkiye will hope to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games which will include Lacrosse. The program welcomes anyone interested in supporting the program, through donations and/or getting the word spread about its recent success and developments.
