University of South Florida announces George (Penncrest) as a transfer

The University of South Florida head women’s lacrosse coach Mindy McCord, announced the addition of seven transfers to her inaugural class set to arrive on campus this upcoming fall.

The seven transfers come from just as many states, from as far west as Colorado and as far north as Connecticut. They will join the incoming freshman class and compete in exhibitions in the spring of 2024 and will start the inaugural season in the spring of 2025.

Juliana George | A | Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest | VCU

Julianna George

George was a four-year starter for VCU. In her four years, she has totaled 112 goals with 58 assists. She is 30 points away from hitting 200 in her career. George has snagged 56 groundballs and has caused 16 turnovers. George is third in assists and fourth in points, goals, and games started in VCU program history. In 2023, she was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team.

Sofia Chepenik | A | Palm Coast, Fla. | Clemson

In her freshman campaign with the Tigers, Chepenik appeared in 15 games. She scored 33 goals and completed 20 assists for a total of 53 points. Chepenik was 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in assists per game, averaging 1.43. In her first year, she led all freshmen in the ACC in goals and assists. Her outstanding efforts on the field earned her a spot on the 2023 ACC All-Freshman Team.

Megan Halczuk | MF | Fawn Grove, Pa. | UMBC

Megan started in all 49 games she has appeared in during her four years at UMBC. She has scored 72 goals and dished 29 assists for 101 total points in her career. Halczuk has scored five game-winning goals, at least one each season with two coming in her senior campaign. She won 343 draw controls throughout her time at UMBC. In 2021, she was named to the IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team, American Eat First Team All-Conference, and the All-Rookie Team.

Morgan Zimmerman | MF | Holtsville, N.Y. | Colorado

Morgan was a two-year midfielder for Colorado, making an appearance in 20 games. She has snagged three groundballs, forced two turnovers, and won one draw control. Morgan made her collegiate debut in 2022 against California. In 2023, she earned her first caused turnover and ground balls against Louisville. Zimmerman earned a spot on the Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll in both years at Colorado.

Lucy Hankins | D | Warrenton, Va. | Butler

In her freshman campaign with the Bulldogs, Lucy made an appearance in all 15 games, earning a start in 13. She snagged 17 groundballs and forced 10 turnovers, putting her second on the team in both categories. Hankins set a season-high of four ground balls against UConn. She played one game as a goalie, earning two saves.

Maggie Newton | A | Skaneateles, N.Y. | Mercyhurst

Maggie has been a two-year starter, earning a start in 34 out of 35 games played. In her two years at Mercyhurst, she has scored 85 goals with 32 assists for a total of 117 points, with 14 of her goals coming from free-position shots. Newton has snagged 52 groundballs and forced 23 caused turnovers. In two seasons, she has scored six game-winning goals and has totaled 128 draw controls. In 2023, Maggie was named to the PSAC West Second Team.

Kaitlyn Tartaglione | MF | Benardsville, N.J. | UConn

In her two seasons with the Huskies, Kaitlyn made an appearance in 26 games. She has scored seven goals, three of which were free-position goals, with a 0.467 shot percentage. Tartaglione has snagged eight groundballs and forced seven turnovers. In her career so far, she has won 12 draw controls. In 2022, Kaitlyn was named to the Big East All-Academic Team.
