West Chester University was well-represented on the Division II preseason All-America list published by US Lacrosse Magazine this week. A total of five Golden Rams were named preseason All-Americans while senior GK Jessica Gorr (Bishop Shanahan) was named the Division II Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
Junior midfielder, Hannah Stanislawczyk (Gov. Mifflin), and Gorr were both first-team All-America honorees while Lindsay Monigle (Cape Henlopen) was a second-team nod at attack, and Keri Barnett (Archbishop Carroll) third team in the midfield. Newcomer, Brenna Smith was an honorable mention selection at attack.
Gorr finished the 2022 spring with an 8.33 goals-against average, sixth-best in the nation, and a .507 save percentage while earning first-team All-Atlantic Region honors. She had six games with 10 or more saves, including a career-high 15 saves in back-to-back games against Mercy and Shippensburg.
Stanislawczyk scored 81 goals, finished with 90 points and secured 85 draw controls a year ago. She was a second-team Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American. She registered a goal in every game last season and put up multiple tallies in every contest but one.
Monigle, who decided to use her COVID season and come back for one more shot at a national semifinal, led the Golden Rams in scoring with 110 points (47 goals, 63 assists). She had a point in every contest and was held without a goal only once. She was an IWLCA all-region selection in 2022.
Barnett, an IWLCA second-team All-American in her first college season, ranked second on the team in both goals (78) and points (94). She was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Freshman of the Year and led the squad with 98 draw controls.
Smith, another fifth-year player utilizing her COVID season, ranked fifth on the team in scoring at Florida Southern last spring with 38 goals and 52 points. She has 99 goals and 126 points in three college lacrosse seasons. She was a first team All-American in 2020, leading the Mocs to a 6-3 record in a COVID-shortened campaign.
West Chester opens the 2023 campaign at Shepherd University on Feb. 21. It is the earliest season opener in recorded history of women’s lacrosse dating back to the inaugural season of 1960.
East Stroudsburg senior Maggie Sell (Perkiomen Valley) was also named to the First-Team squad. East Stroudsburg – the defending national champion – has been named the No. 1 team in the Lax Magazine Preseason Poll.
