Coaches Statement
“Colin exhibits all the attributes of what a lacrosse All-American should display; altruism, humility, dedication, ambassador of the sport, and skill. Many incredible players have these qualities, but not many have accomplished this after overcoming a late diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. Colin was diagnosed before his junior year lacrosse season with this disability after losing 20 pounds. Since then, he was determined to make his senior year his best physically, all the while continuing his academic path of earning his Associate Degree, in addition to completing his high school requirements for graduation. Colin’s determination and the way he pursued his goals while facing adversity are by definition, an All-American effort.”
Honoree Questions:
How do you define leadership? “I would define leadership as using yourself as a way to motivate and bring together your teammates. There is two types of leader, a vocal leader who voices their ideas and bring together the team with their voice, and an example leader who uses themself as an example as of what it should look like to their teammates. Being both is important to me. Using myself as an example on the field to show my teammates is important as I hold myself to a higher standard and want the best for the guys around me. And I need to use my voice to bring the team together and talk about what needs to be done and what was done so that we can adjust and reflect as a team.”
How do you balance academics, service, and athletics? “Time management is the most important thing. Being able to make a schedule for when you have time is key. I always put school first as it is the most important, but athletics is always a key part of my schedule whether it is lifting or doing field work. I used my passion for lacrosse to help out the community. I have done multiple Black Bear Lacrosse Club camps and helped out youth players who want to grow as lacrosse players.”
What are your future goals? “I am attending Stockton University in New Jersey to study business and play lacrosse. My goal is to graduate with a degree in business and do whatever I can to help the Ospreys grow and have success. I plan to continue teaching the game of lacrosse to any and everyone who loves the sport. I can see myself becoming a coach at some point in my life and helping a team grow and love the game.
