It was an impressive opener for Agnes Irwin.
Sophomore Caroline Chisholm collected five goals, one assist, six groundballs and five draw controls to help the visiting Owls claim a 12-4 Inter-Ac League win today over Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.
“It was a huge win for us especially against a team as talented as SCH,” said Chisholm. “They had some momentum going into the game (after defeating Penn Charter on Tuesday), but we played together from the start from both sides of the field.”
Blair Fox had two goals, an assist, five draws and five groundballs for Agnes Irwin (ranked No. 6 by Phillylacrosse.com) while Mairyn Dwyer added two goals, an assist, two groundballs, a caused turnover and a draw and Catie Holmes had a goal, two assists, a caused turnover and a groundball. Ella Springer had two goals, an assist and a groundball and goalie Maggie Mullen posted eight saves, a groundball and a caused turnover.
SCH (1-1), ranked No. 7 by Phillylacrosse.com, fell behind, 4-0 and never got its potent offense on track and struggled for possessions.
“Today we capitalized on a majority of our possessions which wouldn’t have possible without winning the draw,” said Chisholm. “Our goalie, Maggie Mullen, played lights out and our defense held strong against a very talented offense.”
Chisholm knows the Inter-Ac race will feature many big games. Agnes Irwin has high goals, but Chisholm said the team is willing to work as hard as necessary.
“Our goal every year is to win Inter-Ac and PAISAA championships,” she said. “I am really excited to see what this team can do! We know that this will take the whole team to accomplish and we are willing to put in the work!”
