Ursinus women’s head coach Rachel Howard-Franklin has announced that former Owen J. Roberts coach David Schlesinger has been named the Bears’ Offensive Coordinator.
Schlesinger stepped down as OJR coach after leading the Wildcats to the PIAA 3A championship this season. He was named a Phillylacrosse Co-Coach of the Year.
“I am thrilled to bring on such a seasoned successful coach to our program, who knows how to build and get to the top,” said Howard-Franklin. “We are looking to win our fourth Centennial Conference Championship in program history, and I have complete faith he will be a tremendous asset in helping us to that title.”
Schlesinger’s Wildcats defeated Penncrest, 17-9, in the Class 3A final at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium to cap a 27-1 campaign that included a Pioneer Athletic Conference title and a District 1 crown. His mark in four seasons and five years (no games were played in 2020 due to the pandemic) was 90-12. His teams reached states all four times and won three PAC championships. The state title was the first in OJR history and the district crown was its first since 2001.
Schlesinger was named a Phillylacrosse Girls’ Team Coach of the Year Tuesday along with Penncrest coach Caitlin Morgan.
Schlesinger, a 1976 Harriton High grad, also has been head coach at Wissahickon and Central Bucks East as well as Eastern and Princeton High in South Jersey. His career high school record is 185-72.
