Wyoming Seminary (PA) 2023 Quinn Kelly says his role as a goaltender is to not only stop shots, but lead the defense and lift the entire team.

“I see my main strengths in my leadership both on and off the field,” said Kelly, who plays club for Team 11. “As a goalie it is one of my responsibilities to keep not only the defense together, but the whole team. I’m proud of all my accolades, but am most proud of the trust my teammates and coaches have for me.”

Kelly will be a player to watch next Friday, June 17, when Victory Events holds the Beast of the East Showcase at Maple Zone Sports Institute in Aston. Kelly was a repeat First-Team All-Wyoming Valley Conference pick for a Black Knights team (17-3) that won its league crown, its first District 2 2A championship and reached the PIAA State quarterfinals.

The event has limited openings for midfielders and faceoff middies; other players will go on a wait list – Register here.

Kelly, a two-time captain already, is hoping to leave the field next week with no regrets.

“For this showcase I hope to play some good competition and have the opportunity to show college coaches how I play,” he said. “I want to come out of this showcase saying there is nothing more I could’ve done on the field.”

What made Wyoming Seminary so strong in 2022? “We were so successful this year because of the culture we built,” he said. “In the winter we didn’t know if we were going to have a coach (Terry Herron took the job later) so all of the boys became close and united under the same goal, to play lacrosse.

“We had a few dads step up and some other help on the team, but instead of interfering with the culture the kids built they worked with us. This ‘family’ has been through everything together and I think that was a great factor in our success.

“This year we rewrote history and won the district championship for the first time in the school’s history, beating the team who won districts the last 5 years. We also advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time.”
