DukesLCFlorida-Team Maverick last month won the High School “A” Red Division title at the Orlando Open.

DukesFlorida-TeamMaverick claimed the HS “A” Red Division championship last month at the Orlando Open

DukesFloridaTeamMaverick claimed an impressive 13-0 win over True Empire for the title following a hard-fought 8-7 triumph over Miami LC in the semifinals.

Pool Games:
DukesFlorida-Team Maverik 5, Villages 4 (Orlando-based); DukesFlorida-Team Maverick 6, Creators Game 4 (Jupiter- based); DukesFlorida-Team Maverick 11, Sandsharks Navy 5 (Tampa-based)
Semi-Finals:DukesFlorida-Team Maverick 7, Miami LC 6   An exciting nail biter, featuring some great lacrosse on both sides of the bal.

Semifinal Co-MVP’s: Saint Edward’s Eli Barin, (FOGO-SSDM) and Brennan Wolfe (Close D), and Vero Beach HS’s Zeke Ceant (Close D). Strong showings in the net by Eddie Roth (Melbourne Central Catholic) and Liam Murphy (Saint Edward’s School).

Finals: DukesFLA-Team Maverick 13, True Empire 0  DukeFLA. Notably, Saint Edward’s Eli Barin dominated the face-off play all day and then in the Championship. DukesFlorida-Team Maverick was making the extra pass on the perimeter and finding the GLE doorstep wide open on the backside resulting in 3 dunks by Melbourne Central Catholic’s Tanner Penn, who had 4 goals in all.

Penn was gathering feeds because of the quick 2, 3 and 4 passes off the dodges that were catching True Empire out of defenseman with its aggressive play. Eddie Roth (MCC) and Liam Murphy (Saint Edward’s) helped seal the shutout sharing the goalie duties, with Murphy scoring his first HS goal ever going coast to coast.

“The real story was that we became less selfish and moved the ball quickly multiple times around the perimeter, finding the hand free open shot within ten yards of the goal,” said DukesFlorida-TeamMaverick head coach Doug Bailey. “Simply, we were firing on all offensive cylinders this game and it quickly demoralized True Empire being down at half-time 7-0.”
