Temple women’s lacrosse coach Bonnie Rosen (Harriton) will be inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2021 class. She is joined by 14 other distinguished Philadelphia sports figures who will be honored at the Rivers Casino at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2021. Tickets to the reception start at $50.
No stranger to recognition for her amazing career, Rosen has previously been inducted into the Harriton High School Hall of Fame (2000), the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2002), Eastern Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2009), the Connecticut Sports Hall of Fame (2010), the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2010), and the Jewish Sports Heritage Association (2021).
“It is such a special honor for me to be inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame,” Rosen said. “My opportunities and experiences as a female athlete and as a coach have been the direct result of so many amazing Philadelphia athletes and coaches who have paved the way, inspired me, coached me and who have opened up the doors of possibility. I look forward to an evening that celebrates those people, the magic of sport and the wonderful city of Philadelphia!”
Rosen was a two-time high school All-America honoree at Harriton (’88) before helping lead the University of Virginia to the 1991 National Championship. She would then spend 13 years playing lacrosse at the highest level with the United States Elite Team. Rosen won two World Championships with the US National Team. She began her head coaching career in 1997 as the inaugural head coach of the UConn women’s lacrosse program. While with the Huskies she was named BIG EAST Coach of the year in 2000.
Rosen took the reins at Temple in 2007 and in her 15 seasons on North Broad she has led the Owls to a 130-122 record. In 2016, Rosen was awarded Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and BIG EAST Coach of the Year. She has led the Owls to the NCAA tournament twice, including coaching Temple to its first NCAA tournament win since the 1998 season in 2021. Rosen has coached 55 All-Conference, 14 All-Region, and two All-America selections during her time with the Owls.
