From Press Release
Cross Ferrara (Appoquinimink-DE) scored four goals as host Salisbury dominated the second half and claimed an 11-4 win today over Cabrini.
In defeat, freshman goaltender Matt Sageder anchored a defensive effort that fought off 50 shots for the No. 5 Cavaliers (2-1). The rookie posted a career best 24 saves, recording at least six stops in three of today’s four periods.
Cabrini senior Tommy DeLuca also had a game for the ages, pairing six caused turnovers and six ground balls, two more than Sageder, senior Matt LoParo and sophomore Jake Huey (Marple Newtown), who also went 6-9 at the faceoff X.
Senior Drew Supinski (Haverford School) and freshman Max Drift netted two goals each for the Cavaliers (2-1).
Pierre Armstrong (Hatboro-Horsham) added a goal and a caused turnover for the Sea Gulls while Joe Saulino (Henderson) had three groundballs.
The Sea Gulls wasted little time in grabbing control of the action, as senior Ferrara scored the first of his four goals in the game’s opening minute. Salisbury’s lead swelled to 3-0 before Supinski’s unassisted tally with 2:33 left in the first quarter.
Salisbury regained its three goal cushion in the early minutes of the second stanza and held the lead until Drift found his offensive rhythm. The freshman scored both of his goals in a span of 38 seconds to pull the Cavaliers to within 5-4 at the halftime break.
The Blue and White could not carry its momentum into the third quarter, as a early man-up goal spurred the home side. The Sea Gulls extended their lead to 8-4 midway through the third period, before netting two goals in a 14 second span to take a 10-4 lead after 45 minutes.
While the Cavaliers were outshot by a slim 50-43 margin, the Blue and White recorded just 18 shots on goal, while 35 of Salisbury’s attempts were on target. Cabrini’s 18 shots on goal are the fewest since recording 16 in a loss to Salisbury on March 27, 2019, a span of 23 games.
Freshman Jack Dowd added three goals for the Sea Gulls (3-1), while senior goaltender T.J. Ellis notched 14 saves and four ground balls.
