From Press Release
The Delaware men’s lacrosse team defeated Bellarmine, 14-11, in a downpour Sunday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens were sparked by graduate student Jake Hervada (Haverford School), who won 9-of-12 from the face off X in the second half and was 12 of 15 overall.
Junior Tye Kurtz paced Delaware with four goals. Sophomore Mike Robinson netted a hat trick. Fifth-year Charlie Kitchen (St. Augustine Prep) dished out five assists on the day, including a behind-the-back pass to Kurtz to even the score at 10-10.
Senior Matt Kilkeary made nine saves in the win.
Bellarmine got out to a hot start, posting three of the first four goals. Delaware opened the second quarter with three-straight to take a 4-3 advantage, but Bellarmine responded with four-consecutive and went into the break ahead, 7-5.
After Bellarmine opened the scoring, Delaware found the back of the net three times in less than a minute, including two Kitchen-Kurtz connections, to knot the score at 8-8 with 12:23 to play in the third quarter.
The Knights scored the next two goals, but it was all Hens from there, outpacing Bellarmine 6-1 to end the game.
