Lehigh names Romesburg (CB West) as assistant coach

Lehigh head women’s lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced on Thursday the hiring of former James Madison All-American midfielder and 2018 National Champion Elena Romesburg (Central Bucks West) as assistant coach.

Romesburg joins Redfern and associate head coach Sammy Cermack to make up the Mountain Hawks’ 2021-22 coaching staff. Romesburg enjoyed impressive success on and off the field in college. Along with her stellar on-field play, she won the NCAA Elite 90 Award, recognizing the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average who reached the finals site for her/his sport’s respective championship.

“We are proud to welcome Elena to Lehigh,” said Redfern. “She will add terrific support to player development and also serve as our defensive coordinator. Her fantastic reputation as a teammate, competitor and student of the game is a great match for our program values.”

Romesburg enjoyed a decorated career at JMU. She was a third team Media All-American in 2018, helping the Dukes finish 22-1 to win the program’s first national title. Romesburg was a two-time CAA All-Conference honoree and three-time CAA Champion. She finished third at JMU in career draw controls (157), sixth in free-position goals (34), 11th in groundballs (118), tied for 13th in goals (125), 20th in points (149) and tied for 20th in caused turnovers (52).

Romesburg went on to graduate school at JMU, serving as a graduate assistant coach in the fall of 2018. After earning her undergraduate degree in history with a 3.89 grade point average, she posted a perfect 4.0 in her graduate program (teaching). Romesburg was the 2018 CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, 2018 JMU Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a two-time Madison Team Award winner given for hard work, dedication and grit.

The Chalfont native also has coaching experience with Dynasty Elite in Philly and at the Fairfax County Public Schools and the Capital Lacrosse Club in the D.C. region.

Romesburg will join a Lehigh program that won nine of its final 11 games in 2021 to finish the season 9-4. The Mountain Hawks set a program record with two Patriot League Tournament wins in reaching the league title game.

Romesburg was a First-Team pick in 2014 and also a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American. She scored 246 goals in her four-year career. She played club with Ultimate Lacrosse.
