From Press Release

La Salle women’s lacrosse coach Katie Rhodes Abbott announced the addition of Devon Scharf (Cabrini, Lower Merion) as an assistant coach, Abbott announced Monday afternoon.

A two-sport athlete at Cabrini University in both lacrosse and field hockey, Scharf comes to La Salle after serving as a graduate assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2020-21, where she helped lead the Rams to 11 wins while mentoring a nationally ranked goalkeeper in addition to helping plan and run practices while facilitating and leading various gameday operations.

Scharf also served on the Maccabi USA Lacrosse organizing committee, where she helped appoint coaches and recruit teams. She also has experience as an athletic performance intern at Villanova, where she worked with the football team and both men’s and women’s lacrosse team, as well as served as the head junior varsity lacrosse coach at Lower Merion.

“We are so excited to add Devon to our Explorer Lacrosse family,” said Rhodes Abbott, who is entering her fourth season at the helm of the La Salle program. “Devon brings a ton of energy to the staff and we’re so glad to have her here.”

While at Cabrini, Scharf was a member of four-consecutive conference championship teams while compiling a record of 12-8 in 20 career starts. As a junior in 2018, Scharf made 119 saves across 967 minutes to record 12 wins. Her season was capped by an 11 save performance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game where she was the winning goalkeeper. An All-CSAC honorable mention, Scharf’s standout career includes three appearances on the CSAC All-Academic team while also earning a spot on the IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.

“I am so grateful for Coach Rhodes for bringing me onto her squad this year,” said Scharf. “She is an accomplished coach and I am looking forward to being beside her on the sideline this spring. I am extremely thankful for everyone who has helped me on this coaching journey and can’t wait to get going.”

Scharf and La Salle women’s lacrosse will be back in action in 2022 when they kick off their spring slate.
