5/12/09 – District 1 girls’ wrap: Boyertown, NP, Great Valley, D-town East, Springfield-D, Unionville claim wins

Sam Mazzie pumped in five goals and Lyndsey Babilon added two goals and twio assists while Lindsay Clinton made 14 saves as host Boyertown downed Pennridge, 13-5, today in the first round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse playoffs.

Boyertown (17-1-1), the Pioneer Athletic Conference and No. 8 seed, will host Upper Dublin in the second round. The Cardinals (No. 9 seed) defeated Harriton, 16-7.

Rachel Hilbert and Jaime Vincent also scored twice for the Bears, ranked No. 10 in the PA Media Rankings for all schools. Jacquie Burke led 25th-seeded Pennridge (13-6) with two goals and Eileen Applegate made 15 stops.

North Penn 17, Garnet Valley 3
Abbie Hartman exploded for eight goals and Lauren McDermott had four goals and four assists as the second-seeded Maidens (18-0) coasted past the Jaguars.

5/12/10 – Wednesday’s scholastic boys’, girls’ roundup: GFS tops GA; Malvern Prep falls to Lawrenceville

Betsy Sachs pumped in eight goals and added two assists today as host Germantown Friends defeated Germantown Academy, 15-11, in a non-league girls’ lacrosse game.

Annie Morrisey and Lily Tyson each added two goals and an assist for the Lions, who improved to 14-2 as they gear for the Friends Schools League tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Lucy Rabinowitz added a goal and an assist and Samie Francis made nine saves for GFS.

Mia Jordan had three goals and an assist while Stephanie LaMont and Caroline Haynie each had three goals for GA.

Delaware Valley Charter 22, Northeast 10

Nichel Bryant scored eight goals and Chasidy McLauren added seven more to lead Delaware Valley Charter to a Public League win over Northeast in the Public League. Also scoring for Del Val were Somaly Kim (three goals), Shyna In (three goals) and Lagbeh Weah (one goal).

5/12/11 – Girls’ lacrosse: Garnet Valley tops Conestoga in OT to finish as one of four Central League champions

Ally Heavens tied the game with 27 seconds to play in regulation and Halley Barnes won it in overtime to give host Garnet Valley a stunning 10-9 victory tonight over Conestoga, leaving the Jaguars as one of four teams to share the Central League girls’ lacrosse championship.

Garnet Valley (16-2 overall) finished in the deadlock with Harriton, Radnor and Springfield-Delco, all with 9-2 marks. The four teams should receive high seeds this weekend when the District 1 field is announced.

Conestoga (11-5 overall) could have finished in the four-way tie for the crown with a win. The Pioneers closed 8-3 in the league.

The Jaguars trailed, 9-8, when AnnaElise Morello (one goal, four assists) fed Heavens (three goals, one assist) with the tying goal. Coley Ricci won the draw that set up the game-winner by Barnes, who finished with five goals.

The Garnet Valley players stormed the field after the win, celebrating a title in only their fourth year as a Central League member. Garnet Valley – which went just 4-14 and won two Central League games in its first year in the league, in 2008 – has won 13 straight games.

5/12/12 – Girls’ lacrosse milestone: Wissahickon junior Frankenfield scores 200th career goal

Laura Frankenfield (center) scored her 200th goal on Thursday

Wissahickon junior attack Laura Frankenfield pumped in seven goals and scored her 200th career goal Thursday to help the Trojans claim a 10-7 non-league win over Gwynedd Mercy Academy.

Frankenfield, committed to Boston College, has 82 goals and 48 assists this year and is two points shy of 300 points.

The Trojans finished second in the Suburban One American Conference with an 10-2 record and were 11-7 overall.

5/12/14 – Phillylacrosse.com Girls’ Rankings: District 1 tournament opens Tuesday

The District 1 tournament opens Tuesday with 16 games as teams aim for the six spots in the PIAA tournament.

1. Moorestown (18-0) Prev: No. 1 The Quakers will head into the post-season as the favorite to win a third straight Tournament of Champions title.

2. Garnet Valley (16-1) Prev: No. 2- The Central League champion Jaguars got the top seed in District 1 and host Central Bucks East on Tuesday.

3. Springfield-Delco (16-2) Prev: No. 3 – The second-seeded Cougars host Avon Grove on Tuesday in the first round of districts.

4. Harriton (13-5) Prev: No. 4 – The fifth-seeded Rams host Gwynedd Mercy Academy on Tuesday in the first round of districts.

5/12/17 – Owen J. Roberts tops Spring-Ford, 11-4, for 3rd straight Pioneer Athletic Conference girls’ title

With Anna Dempsey and Eloise Gebert leading the offense and goalkeeper Mia Tornetta and Kylie Cahill anchoring the defense, host Owen J. Roberts tucked away its third consecutive Pioneer Athletic Conference girls’ lacrosse championship Thursday evening at the friendly surrounding of Henry J. Bernat Field in Wildcat Stadium.

The host Wildcats broke open a tight game with a 6-0 spurt and toppled Spring-Ford, 11-4, in the title contest.

The Wildcats held a 4-2 led with less than three minutes left in the first half before the run. Dempsey scored five goals to headline the attack for coach Joe Tornetta.

Gebert added three goals and one assist from her midfield position. She also handled the draw controls.

5/12/18 – No. 1 Moorestown topples Agnes Irwin, 10-5, in celebration of 60 years of lacrosse

MOORESTOWN, N.J. – Moorestown celebrated its 60-year anniversary of girls’ lacrosse in style Saturday as it honored its glorious past with a win it hopes will spark a big post-season run.

The Quakers, ranked No. 1 by Phillylacrosse.com, toppled No. 6 Agnes Irwin, 10-5, as Kacey Knobloch had three goals and two assists and posted her 100th career goal to lead a balanced attack.

“I was impressed with the way our girls came out strong and they never let down for a second,” said Quakers head coach Deanna Knobloch. “We played a full 50 minutes today. Many times in the past, we have taken off a play or two and have gotten down, or didn’t play as hard as we could have when we were up, but it was a full 100% effort today.”

5/12/19 – Cabrini downs Drew, 15-10, for D3 championship; Neary earns 300th win

The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes of today’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship to pull away from Drew University, as the Cavaliers captured the 2019 ECAC Division III Lacrosse championship.

The Blue and White improved to 14-8 and closed its season with six consecutive victories en route to claiming its first ever ECAC women’s lacrosse title.

Today’s win also marked milestone for head coach Jackie Neary, who won her 300th women’s lacrosse victory. Entering the 2019 season, just seven coaches in Division III history had reached the 300 win plateau. When paired with her field hockey success, Neary owns 545 victories on the Cabrini sideline.

Senior Avery Murphy (Archbishop Carroll) was named ECAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after recording five goals, 11 draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in today’s win.

With today’s output, Murphy moved to the top of the program’s career and single season goal lists with 238 and 95, respectively. The senior adds these marks to her records of 124 points this season and 452 career draw controls.
