5/11/08 – Girls’ notebook: Confidence pushes C.R. South to its first crown
By Chris Goldberg
Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 5/11/08
Council Rock South coach Kara Muenker claims the difference between her team from last year to this season is basic confidence.
“I think confidence plays a huge role,” she said of a team that finished 10-10 in 2007. “Last year we lost a lot of games by one or two goals.
“We just didn’t have the confidence to know we could fight back and come back and win. This year we have been down quite a few games and yet they’ve been confident that we could come back.”
That competitive edge helped this year’s Golden Hawks achieve their first league championship in the six-year history of the program. One game after edging Hatboro-Horsham, 13-12, CR South clinched the Suburban One Continental Conference crown Thursday with a hard-fought 14-12 victory over Central Bucks West.
The win raised the Hawks’ record to 11-0 in the league and 16-2 overall. They close their season Monday at home against second-place Souderton.
5/11/10 – Tuesday’s scholastic girls’ roundup: Strath Haven earns share of first Central League crown

Sophomore Lexi Mazur scored three goals and freshman Kirsten Wilhelmsen added two goals and two assists as visiting Strath Haven defeated Penncrest, 12-5, today to finish in a three-way tie for its first-ever Central League girls’ lacrosse championship.
The Panthers (14-1, ranked No. 2 in PA Media Rankings) improved to 10-1 in the league and closed in tie with Radnor and Springfield-Delco. Springfield-Delco handed Radnor its first loss, 8-7, today.
Alex Duckenfield had two goals and one assist and Jenna Frost scored twice for the Panthers while Ana White had a goal and an assist. Summer O’Donnell and Molly Dienno scored once and Lela Meunier made three saves.
“We are so excited to get a share for the title with the top two teams in the state,” said Strath Haven first-year coach Jen Duckenfield, who served as an assistant the past few years. “The best part of it is that we stayed true to form and played great as a team all year.”
5/11/10 – Scholastic girls: Radnor rallies to down Springfield-Delco, 8-7, to force 3-way tie for Central League title

Ali Kelly scored off an 8-meter free position shot with eight minutes to play to cap a stunning comeback and lift host Radnor to an 8-7 victory over Springfield-Delco today in a Central League girls’ lacrosse game.
The decision will leave three teams – No. 1-ranked Springfield, No. 3 Radnor (17-1) and also No. 2 Strath Haven – as tri-champions of the Central League with 10-1 records. Strath Haven, which topped Penncrest, 12-5, today, had defeated Radnor last week.
“I thought they showed a lot of fortitude and poise in the second half,” said Radnor coach Phyllis Kilgour of her Raiders, who held the No. 1 spot in the PA Media Rankings all year until the loss to the Panthers. “They definitely had a refuse to lose attitude. When the going gets tough, the tough get
going.
“They have carried a huge load on their backs all season long.”
The visiting Cougars (15-1), though, had a chance to win it outright after taking a quick 6-0 lead and then a 7-2 bulge on a goal by Courtney Kennedy (two goals) with 5:48 left in the first half. Radnor then held Springfield-Delco scoreless and began pecking away at the lead in the second half.

5/11/17 – West Chester Rustin edges Henderson, 6-5, to claim outright Ches-Mont League girls’ title
By Harry Chaykin
Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 5/11/17
Over the years, any game in any sport against West Chester Henderson has meant a lot to the players at West Chester Rustin.

Throw in the chance to win the Ches-Mont League girls lacrosse title for the first time since the members of the Class of 2017 were third graders and Thursday night’s matchup at Rustin took on more meaning.
“It’s Henderson vs. Rustin,” WCH head coach Lauren Purvis said. “You don’t have to say to much else.”
It turned out to be a game the coaches, players and fans from Rustin will take about for a long time – and not just because it was a tight rivalry thriller.
Rustin used a solid defensive effort, anchored by junior goalie Maddi Montebianco, to earn a 6-5 decision over Henderson, claiming its first Ches-Mont title since 2008.
5/11/17 – Archbishop Carroll downs Conestoga, 11-6, in battle of No. 1 teams
By Matt Chandik

Kristy Kucia is seeing things from an entirely different perspective this season.

She couldn’t be farther from her natural home on the field at low defense, but she’s fitting in just fine in the Archbishop Carroll lineup. The sophomore High Point commit gets to handle the ball more at low attack, where she facilitates the Patriots’ offense as a distributor to big-time goal scorers like Sam Swart and Katie Detwiler.
Thursday, she showed off some of her passing ability by dishing out three assists as Carroll stayed unbeaten with an 11-6 win over defending PIAA champion Conestoga in a battle of the two teams ranked No. 1 by Phillylacrosse.com.
“It’s my first year playing low (attack) and (the coaches) are trying to move me around and get me moved up to midfield at some point,” Kucia said. “My role is just to feed the ball and get open. I don’t have to make the big plays and they tell me to make the little plays, because little plays help the most.”
