NJ Group championships: Moorestown, Haddonfield win state titles; TOC schedule announced

Moorestown scored four straight goals to seize a 6-5 halftime lead and claimed a 9-8 victory Saturday over Mendham to claim its second straight New Jersey Group 3 state championship at Kean University.

The Quakers (19-5) seek to defend their Tournament of Champions title when it meets Group 4 champion Ridgewood on Wednesday at Middletown South at 5 p.m. Moorestown has won 23 overall state titles.

The win also Quakers gave their first year-coach, Colleen Hancox, her first state crown.

This win Saturday did not come easy for for the Quakers, who went down 5-2 after Mendham (19-4) scored four unanswered goals itself in the first half.

Ashley Nutt and Rylee Brown paced the Quakers with three goals each. Brown’s third tally made it 9-7 with 16 minutes to play and senior goalie Logan Lillie (six saves) was clutch with several key stops in the final minutes.

Nutt scored three of her goals in the 4-0 run to end the first half for the Quakers. Kayla Frank added two goals for Moorestown.

Group 2 – Haddonfield 18, Madison 7

The Bulldawgs (19-3) won a second straight Group 2 championship at Kean University.

Ashley Campo and Caroline Beckett had five goals and two assists each, and Brooke Fiannaca added four goals and an assist for Haddonfield. Gabi Connor contributed three goals and four assists.

Haddonfield will face top-seeded Oak Knoll in the TOC semis Wednesday at Middletown South at 7 p.m.
