Registration is open for the Attack Cancer 5k on Saturday, Nov. 3 at William Penn Charter School.
The event was created to help support The Movember Foundation (Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Mental Health) in Joey Sankey’s name. Sankey, a former Penn Charter high school All-American and college All-American at North Carolina who founded Team11 Lacrosse, was diagnosed with testicular cancer and recently began chemotherapy treatments.

Joey Sankey: “Three weeks ago, on September 18, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. I had surgery a week later and was hoping I wouldn’t need further treatment, but unfortunately, I learned that the cancer spread. On Monday, October 15th, I started my first round of Chemotherapy.
“Testicular Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among young men in the United States. Fortunately, it is an extremely curable disease and I know that I will beat this.
“The main thing I’ve realized while going through this is how incredibly lucky I am. I have an amazing family and so many close friends that I consider part of my family. I have received an overwhelming amount of support and love that has shown me ‘No One Fights Alone.’
“I do not feel like a victim one bit, so if you see me please don’t treat me like one. There are many worse things that could happen to someone, and this is just another challenge to overcome in life. Although it will be difficult at times, I am determined to turn this negative obstacle into a positive experience in my life.
“That being said, I have decided to try and raise money to donate to the Movember Foundation. The Movember Foundation focuses on raising awareness for Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer, and Mental Health.
