Former Friends’ Central girls’ lacrosse coach Lauren Becker Rubin was recently inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony was held May 23 at the Gershman Y Jewish Cultural Center in Philadelphia.
Becker Rubin was the Phillylacrosse.com Coach of the Year in 2014 when she guided the Phoenix to the PAISAA championship. She posted a career record of 110-45-1. Becker Rubin also has coached with the Quaker City travel team.

Lauren Becker Rubin has had a distinguished career as both an athlete and a coach. Becker Rubin grew up along the Main Line and graduated from Friends’ Central. A 3 sport athlete and 12-Letter winner, she was the school’s 1st ever US Lacrosse High School All-American.
As a Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Brown University, Becker Rubin re-wrote the record books in both sports. She led her team to Brown’s first ever Ivy League Field Hockey Championship, was named to the All Ivy League 1st Team in 1984, 1985 and 1986, was selected Brown’s MVP in 1984, ’85 and ’86, was a two-time Captain, and graduated as Brown’s All Time Leading Scorer.
Becker Rubin was also standout for the Brown Women’s Lacrosse Team. Her honors include being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year (1984), the Ivy League Player of the Year(1987), 2-time IWLCA All-American, 3-time Brine Regional All-American, All Ivy League 1st Team 1986,1987, and GTE Co-Sida Academic All-American. Becker Rubin graduated as Brown Women’s Lacrosse all time leading scorer and assists leader-both records she still owns, 31 years later. She still holds the Brown record for consecutive games scoring a point(40 games), and the Division 1 NCAA record for assists per game.
In 1992, Becker Rubin was inducted into the Brown University Hall of Fame for both Field Hockey and Lacrosse, and in 1999 she was selected to the Ivy League 25th / Silver Anniversary Championship Team.
Becker Rubin is equally accomplished as a coach. After brief stints at West Chester, Goucher and Baltimore Friends, in 2004 she returned to her alma mater, as head lacrosse coach. Friends’ Central developed into a top 20 team in Eastern PA, and the standard in the Friends League, capturing seven FSL Championships, and six out of seven from 2010-2016. In 2014, her team pulled off a dramatic upset over the then #1 ranked team in PA to win the Pennsylvania Independent Schools State Championship, and she was named PhillyLacrosse.com Coach of the Year.
Currently, Becker Rubin is a Mental Skills Coach working with several area teams and individual athletes.
