From Press Release

Virginia midfielder Dox Aitken (Haverford School) wasted little time in the second overtime, scooping up the ground ball off the faceoff and pushing it through traffic, including splitting two Loyola defenders, before scoring the unassisted goal to lift the Cavaliers (1-0) over the No. 13 Greyhounds, 13-12, on Saturday at Klöckner Stadium. Aitken’s goal came 15 seconds into the second overtime period.

“I was really happy that Dox Aitken took a chance in the second overtime to not let Loyola set up their defense and go straight to the goal,” said Virginia head coach Lars Tiffany. “I would certainly give Loyola credit for tying it up down three late, but it wasn’t that we stalled and went slow.”

Aitken had a goal and two assists as well as four groundballs as Philly grads played key roles in the game. Freshman Matt Moore (Garnet Valley) had two goals and an assist and twp groundballs while Justin Schwenk (Spring-Ford) won 16 of 26 faceoffs – including the draw that led right o Aitken’s game-winner – and Griffin Thompson (Lawrenceville School) had 15 saves in goal.

For Loyola, LSM Ryan McNulty (Bishop Shanahan) had two groundballs and a caused turnover and Ryder Harkins (Malvern Prep) had a groundball and a caused turnover.

Duke 19, Jacksonville 6

Freshman Joe Robertson (Duke’s LC) had three goals and five assists for the Blue Devils (3-0).

Bucknell 14, Bryant 12

Freshman Tommy Sopko (Conestoga) had two goals and an assist for the Bison.

Wagner 11, Manhattan 5

Andrew Streilein (Lenapr-NJ) had three goals and an assist for Wagner.
